Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Ethics and Malpractice Statement
The Brazilian Journal of Health Aromatherapy and Essential Oil (BJHAEO) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all necessary measures to prevent publication malpractice. The journal adheres to internationally recognized ethical principles and follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and best practices in scholarly publishing.
These ethical guidelines apply to all parties involved in the publishing process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.
Duties of Authors
Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate, transparent, and objective account of the research performed, as well as a balanced discussion of its significance. Fraudulent, misleading, or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be requested to provide raw data related to their manuscript for editorial or peer-review purposes. Authors should be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable period after publication and, whenever possible, provide public access in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are entirely original. If the work or words of others are used, appropriate citation or quotation is required. Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is not tolerated.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publish substantially similar research in multiple venues. Such practices are considered unethical and unacceptable.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of all sources and contributions must be provided. Authors should cite publications that have significantly influenced the research reported.
Authorship and Contributorship
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All individuals who meet these criteria should be listed as authors, while others who contributed in a limited capacity should be acknowledged appropriately.
Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing the research results or interpretation. All sources of financial support must be clearly stated.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If authors identify significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are obligated to promptly notify the journal and cooperate fully in issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary.
Duties of Editors
Publication Decisions
Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts are accepted for publication, based on their scientific merit, originality, relevance, and alignment with the journal’s scope. Editorial decisions must be independent of commercial interests or external influence.
Fair Play
Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on their intellectual content, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, or other editorial advisors, as appropriate.
Conflicts of Interest
Editors must not use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for their own research without the explicit written consent of the authors. Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making informed decisions and supports authors in improving the quality and clarity of their manuscripts.
Promptness
Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or are unable to complete the review within the agreed timeframe should inform the editor promptly and decline the review.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without authorization from the editor.
Objectivity and Standards of Review
Reviews should be conducted objectively and constructively. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear, reasoned, and evidence-based feedback.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and notify the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published works.
Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and refrain from reviewing manuscripts where such conflicts exist. Information obtained through peer review must not be used for personal or professional advantage.
Ethical Oversight and Corrections
BJHAEO is committed to addressing ethical concerns, errors, and allegations of misconduct promptly and transparently. When necessary, the journal will publish corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern in accordance with established ethical standards.
