Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process
The Brazilian Journal of Health Aromatherapy and Essential Oil (BJHAEO) (ISSN 2965-7253) is an international, open-access, peer-reviewed scientific journal published in continuous flow. The journal is dedicated to the dissemination of high-quality research across health sciences, including basic, clinical, translational, and applied studies relevant to human health.
BJHAEO aims to provide an efficient, fair, and rigorous peer-review process that supports scientific integrity, editorial independence, and the advancement of interdisciplinary health research.
General Policy
Manuscripts submitted to BJHAEO must be original and must not have been previously published, except in the form of abstracts, academic theses, or conference presentations. Submissions must not be under consideration by another journal at the time of submission.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed co-authors have made substantial contributions to the work and have approved the final version of the manuscript. Authors should retain copies of all submitted materials for reference during the editorial process.
All submissions are acknowledged upon receipt. Editorial decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection are communicated to the authors as efficiently as possible. Accepted manuscripts may undergo editorial revisions to improve clarity, consistency, and compliance with journal standards, without altering the scientific content.
Peer Review Policy
All manuscripts submitted to BJHAEO undergo a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed, to ensure impartial and unbiased evaluation.
Authors are encouraged to suggest up to four potential reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area, including complete institutional affiliations and email addresses. Authors may also request the exclusion of up to two reviewers due to potential conflicts of interest, provided that a clear justification is submitted.
The final selection of reviewers is at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief or designated members of the Editorial Board. Suggested reviewers may or may not be invited, and additional reviewers may be selected independently by the editors.
Peer Review Process
Initial Editorial Assessment
Upon submission, manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the editorial team to assess their alignment with the journal’s aims and scope, ethical compliance, methodological soundness, and overall scientific relevance.
Based on this assessment, the editor may:
- send the manuscript for external peer review, or
- reject the manuscript without external review if it does not meet the journal’s standards or scope.
External Peer Review
Manuscripts selected for peer review are evaluated by two or more independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript’s subject area.
Reviewers are required to treat all submitted manuscripts and associated data as strictly confidential and must not share or discuss them with others without prior authorization from the journal. If reviewers consult colleagues for specific expertise, confidentiality must be maintained, and the names of those consulted must be disclosed to the editorial office.
Reviewers submit their evaluations through the journal’s secure online submission system, following the instructions provided by the editorial team. Reviews are expected to be objective, constructive, and supported by clear scientific reasoning.
Editorial Decision
After receiving the reviewers’ reports, the assigned editor evaluates the manuscript based on:
- the reviewers’ recommendations,
- the manuscript’s scientific quality and originality,
- its relevance to BJHAEO’s aims and scope, and
- its potential contribution to the health sciences.
Editorial decisions (acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection) are communicated exclusively to the authors through the journal’s submission system. Reviewer identities remain confidential.
Timeliness and Transparency
BJHAEO is committed to ensuring timely editorial decisions and efficient publication. Reviewers are encouraged to complete their evaluations within the agreed timeframe. If delays occur, reviewers are expected to notify the editorial office promptly so alternative arrangements can be made.
Authors may track the progress of their submissions through the journal’s online system and may contact the editorial office regarding the status of their manuscript at any stage of the review process.
Commitment to Peer Review Integrity
BJHAEO recognizes peer review as a fundamental component of scientific quality assurance and is committed to maintaining transparency, fairness, and ethical responsibility throughout the review process.
