Animal Ethics Committee

The Brazilian Journal of Health Aromatherapy and Essential Oil (BJHAEO) requires that all studies involving animals comply with internationally accepted ethical standards for animal research, as well as with the specific regulations of the country where the study was conducted.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that animal welfare is respected and that all procedures are conducted in accordance with ethical, legal, and scientific principles.

Ethical Approval for Animal Research

Research involving animals must follow the guidelines established by local or national ethics committees on animal research, when applicable. Authors must clearly state in the manuscript whether ethical approval was required and, if so, provide details of the approving committee.

Brazilian Regulatory Framework

For studies conducted in Brazil, BJHAEO emphasizes compliance with the guidelines established by the National Council for the Control of Animal Experimentation (CONCEA).

According to CONCEA regulations, the requirement for ethical approval depends on the nature of the study:

  1. Animal clinical case reports that are not associated with animal experimentation and derive solely from routine clinical or professional practice do not require prior approval from a local Ethics Committee on the Use of Animals (CEUA).
  2. Animal clinical case reports or studies involving animal experimentation, including invasive procedures, experimental interventions, or protocols beyond routine clinical care, require prior ethical approval from a competent CEUA, and the approval document must be submitted with the manuscript.

Authors must determine whether their study qualifies as animal experimentation under applicable regulations and ensure appropriate ethical review when required.

Transparency and Ethical Declaration

When ethical approval is obtained, authors must include a clear statement in the manuscript describing:

  • the name of the ethics committee,
  • the approval number or protocol, and
  • confirmation of compliance with animal welfare guidelines.

Failure to comply with ethical requirements may result in rejection of the manuscript or withdrawal at any stage of the editorial process.

Editorial Responsibility

BJHAEO reserves the right to request additional documentation or clarification regarding ethical approval for animal research. The journal also reserves the right to reject submissions that do not adequately address animal welfare or ethical compliance.

Additional Information

Authors are encouraged to consult the official CONCEA guidelines and frequently asked questions for further clarification when conducting animal research in Brazil.
