DORA Declaration

Brazilian Journal of Health Aromatherapy and Essential Oil Endorses the DORA Declaration

The Brazilian Journal of Health Aromatherapy and Essential Oil (BJHAEO) proudly announces its endorsement of the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). This commitment reflects the journal’s dedication to promoting responsible, transparent, and fair practices in the evaluation of scholarly research.

By supporting DORA, BJHAEO aligns itself with international efforts to improve research assessment systems and to move beyond the inappropriate use of journal-based metrics as proxies for the quality of individual research outputs.

About DORA

The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) was developed in 2012 during the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology in San Francisco. DORA aims to improve the ways in which scientific research outputs are evaluated, advocating for assessment practices that focus on the intrinsic quality, rigor, and relevance of research, rather than on journal-level metrics such as the Journal Impact Factor (JIF).

Our Commitment

By endorsing DORA, BJHAEO commits to:

  • Valuing Research Content Over Metrics
Assessing manuscripts based on scientific quality, methodological rigor, originality, and relevance, rather than relying on journal-based indicators.
  • Recognizing Diverse Research Outputs
Acknowledging the importance of different types of scholarly contributions, including original research articles, reviews, clinical studies, case reports, datasets, methodological papers, and other outputs that advance health sciences.
  • Promoting Transparent and Responsible Assessment
Encouraging the use of a broad range of qualitative and quantitative indicators, when appropriate, to reflect the real impact and contribution of research.
  • Supporting Inclusivity and Interdisciplinarity
Fostering an inclusive scientific environment that values contributions from researchers across different disciplines, career stages, institutions, and geographic regions.
  • Aligning Editorial Policies with Best Practices
Continuously reviewing and refining editorial and evaluation policies to reflect internationally accepted standards for responsible research assessment.

Why This Matters

The adoption of DORA principles represents an important step toward improving the culture of research assessment. It supports a more equitable, transparent, and meaningful evaluation of scientific work, encouraging innovation, collaboration, and integrity across the global research community.

By endorsing DORA, BJHAEO reinforces its commitment to ethical publishing, academic responsibility, and the advancement of high-quality health science research.
